In a comment on an earlier post, Taylor Smith pointed me to Campbell Rinker's web site and their ChMS survey. I contacted them and very quickly they sent me a copy of their latest survey! Justin Cross, Project Director at Campbell Rinker, graciously allowed me to post the PDF results of the survey, so here it is: Download 2004_CMS_Survey_Report.pdf
If you would be interested in participating in future ChMS surveys conducted by Campbell Rinker, they invite you to register to join their survey panel.
A few quick comments on the survey:
- Keep in mind, this is data from 2003, so the ChMS scene has changed some. In particular, Fellowship One wasn't in the picture
- Not too surprisingly, nobody rated a perfect 7. Actually, there weren't ANY 7 scores anywhere in the table. There weren't many in the 6 range either. (Are you surprised?)
- There weren't many scores on the lower end of the scale, as final scores, or as individual component scores. This would seem to go along with many other surveys that tend to show most ChMS users are fairly happy with what they have. (Should I be trying to make people unhappy -- that doesn't seem very nice)
What do you see in this data? What questions would you like to see in future surveys?

Wow, I feel like a celebrity being mentioned in Tony Dye's blog! Glad you enjoyed the link. I came across it while doing some research into ChMS for the software company I work for.

Interesting survey. Completely nuts, but interesting. The one thing I can take away from it is that so much of this industry is satisfied that we should hold out even less hope that the software companies will take the needed risks to realize even a small fraction of the potential that exists if only a little imagination is combined with usability testing and the development of best practices in this industry.
I would have had more than a few 1's, 2's, and 3's.
