In response to Jason's request, here are a few pictures of that interesting room I had in Oklahoma City.
On first walking into the room, it's pretty normal looking:
Looking at the other side of the room, still nothing obviously unusual:
Walking toward what you expect to be the bathroom or closet, still fairly normal:
As you actually get into that area, well, there is no closet. OK, vanity, closet, all in one, that's fine.
Now, as you turn the corner is where things get more interesting.
Notice the floor right on the other side of the toilet. And the weird chair at the far right.
The shower and toilet are pretty much all the same space. Also, look back at previous pictures and note the conspicuous absence of any door!
Coming back out into the main room, the little sofa has had a rough night some time. Notice the tear in the fabric:
And the final feature. You always know what the weather is like outside, thanks to the 1/2" gap under the door.
Oh yes, with that gap, you also hear every conversation of people walking by.
Now please, don't misunderstand. This room met my needs. I slept well and I was comfortable. And now, I have this story to share :-)
Oh, there was one more thing. If you built a bathroom like this, you'd probably make sure the drain was the lowest point in the room, right? You probably can't tell from this picture, but the water is about a quarter inch deep in front of the toilet, even though it's almost dry in the shower area.

Funny, when my wife and I were building our home, she had seen a bathroom setup much like that in some designer mag (of course it looked nicer), only she didn't even want a curtain between the shower and the can! I'm glad I talked her into building a somewhat normal bathroom. :-)
Thanks for sharing the pics.

Tony,
So just how many merit badges did you attain when you in Boy Scouts?

I found your post to be very funny. Being from Oklahoma, I know how the hotels here can be. I've stayed in some pretty bad ones.

Definitely an interesting bathroom setup. I don't think I would care for going in there in the middle of the night and stepping in a big puddle of water. Other than that, it would be fine I guess.

It appears you were put in on of the required ADA compliant room with the associated ADA compliant bathroom. That doesn't account for the drain being in the wrong place or the other issues.
