What is it?

While in Montgomery, we visited Old Alabama Town.  During part of the tour of the buildings surrounding Lucas Tavern, we ran into this little device.

It is without a doubt the best one of these I've ever seen.  And, of course, I have no idea whatsoever what it is.

A bit later we discovered the hospitality of the community as they'd created something just for us.  How'd they know my name? :-)

Tony,

It looks like an apple-corer-peeler-slicer to me. But maybe it doesn't slice like the modern ones do.

Micah

Looks like a potato peeler or some such device.

Upon further examination of the images, it looks like the bulk of the gear mechanism is designed to spin a small blade. Perhaps meant for sweet potatoes which have tougher skins?

Video of it in motion would be helpful :)

I believe it is a cherry pitter. Although it looks like it might be missing the 'mouth' piece where you would stick all the cherries. My grandmother had a cherry picker that looked very similiar. I was pretty young though so.... :)

Cool, an excuse to visit Lehman's when I'm down that way in July! As if I really need an excuse...
