When you think of Church IT, do you think of any visionary people who are really advancing the state of the art for the church? How about visionary companies? Or any other sort of visionary organization that has to do with Church IT?
Business & Technology Consultant, Manager, and Resource
When I think of church IT people, I think of this relatively small group of bloggers who do church IT. Tony, you're right up there at the top of my list along with Jason Powell.
As for companies, the one company that has truly revolutionized the way my church does IT is Fellowship Technologies.

I would go ahead and add Brian to his list along with David Russell.

Gotta add Terry Storch and Terry Chapman from Fellowship Church. They developed the F1 stuff many of us are using today. Oh and Brian Bailey also from Fellowship for web and video streaming.
I got to hear Eric Busby from Saddleback a few years ago ... he sounded like a visionary, but alas he's not blogging so I'm not sure if he can qualify as a visionary ;-)

Tony,
I would concur with those "nominated" above. I think there are others who are making a local or regional impact, some who could be named, but most are unsung heros carrying the vision for their local church. We would probably know more about them if they blogged or hired a PR firm so we could get to know them and what they are doing. ;-)
Another question is who are the Senior Pastors and Executive Pastors who get IT and are driving the techies to do more for the Church community?
Grace to you,
jhook

Hi guys. Well, I have to admit I have not been blogging. The main reason was that I have been concerned about some global security issues. But some of what I am doing is showing up in the newspapers now so I guess I can surface on the blogs. God is so good. Do you think I should put up a blog? We are about to launch a secure global system for churches... and I'd love to get you all involved in helping build a massive framework for the kingdom.

Eric, thanks for responding, and for the question. I have to believe you have a lot of incredibly valuable information for those trying to do church IT. You've been there and had lots of successes (and perhaps a bump or two along the way?). Others would love to learn from the pioneering you've done.
Thanks!

Tony,
I think most of what I have experienced along the way have been bumps. Like 90% bumps with 10% smooth ;-) I will be happy to share them with anyone if there is a specific question.
I just got back from the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco. I have put a few of my initial take-aways on my new blog (http://www.ericbusby.com) - and I will spend some time sharing the analysis over the next few weeks.
My plan is to post once or twice per day.
Big news: I bought a MACINTOSH. I think I might be in violation of my microsoft certs, or kicked out of the wintel club... but now that one machine can run Windows and OS X and Linux, I am pretty happy. Technically, it is wintel, no? The mac is not church equipment (I bought it on my own because it is a personal decision) - but for doing all the podcast / video / graphics stuff it is really sweet. (I cannot believe I am saying that here in public...) But I am among friends, right?
About half the people at the web 2 expo were on macs, so I felt a little better seeing that ;-)
